Green Hat Thinking- Getting Creative!

Today our focus was on using our Green Thinking Hat at Discovery Time.  We were given a variety of ideas as starters but were encouraged  to come up with our own ideas for using the equipment or changing the ideas so they became our own.  We were so engaged with our learning!
Check out some of the cool things that we made!

Thank you Anna for helping up to make new playdough.  We loved using it to create lots of different things.  A container of buttons provided the inspirations for many sparkly creations and animals!

Shells and twigs  provided the starter for many wonderful creatures and boats.
Lego figurines proved a very popular creation!

Ooey, gooey, slippery, slimy, oozy.... buckets of fun!  We came up with so many awesome adjectives to describe how this slime felt!

Over the next five weeks we will measuring lots of different things.
We started this topic off with an awesome gummy bear experiment. Please ask us to tell you about it at home! We were so excited to observe the changes that happened to the gummy bears in the different substances!

Yet again we have more  awesome children showing our REACH values!

Discovery Time

Discovery Time is an opportunity  for us to be creative thinkers , to use our self management and cooperative skills,  to develop fine motor skills and much, much  more!

Today we had creative children who made snakes then designed homes for them using the rods.
We had some help from George and Harry Marshall-Lee to make the coolest whistles that sounded like duck callers!  Thank you boys!
Luci and her Mum came organised with fantastic rockets that blasted off with the the help of a straw and our lungs! We loved sharing these!  Thank you!
These girls showed that they have been learning lots in our print-making lessons this term. They worked carefully at the painting table with some potato shapes and paint brushes to create lovely flowers in a vase!
Co-operation is so important in Rooms 6 & 7.  Today Ryia and Matthew worked so well together to create a really cool looking monster.  Well done!

I really love how everyone works together and helps each other to learn new skills!  Kapai!

We are so busy and creative in Room 7.

Very good readers too!

Well done to the four clever readers who came first equal in the reading rocket race!!! I didn't think I would have to get FOUR prizes.
Super proud of you all!
Good job chaps!!

Come on girls.........the space word race has started. Let's beat the boys this time!

Space Fun

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about space.  Today we enjoyed watching a youtube video of Apollo 11 landing on the moon! We knew that 3 astronauts went to space in  Apollo 11  but we didn't know if they all went on the moon or all of their names:

We discovered using the internet that only 2 of the astronauts landed on the moon- Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.  Michael Collins , the third astronaut, had to stay in the rocket and orbit the moon taking photos and carrying out experiments.

Today w have had such a lot of fun blowing up balloons to make our own rockets, walking on stilts across the moon and jumping to get fit like an astronaut.

These wonderful children all received REACH awards this week.  Some were for being very Caring class members and some for showing Excellence in their schoolwork.  Well done!

Check out these future engineers- they have been watching the building of the new Ashley bridge and were keen to have a go at designing and building their own with blocks!

We are always busy learning!

This term we are having so much fun. On Thursday's we go to gymnastics in Rangiora. We have experts teaching us new skills.  We all show tremendous courage and a positive attitude when we try new things!
Matthew and Janine have been having great fun learning a new sport called Boccia.  Boccia is a game of skill and strategy and is similar to lawn bowls and petanque. Next week he is going to teach us all how to play! We can't wait!
We love celebrating our REACH values. Check out these awesome kids!

Using our Green hats at discovery time we have an enormous amount of fun using the duplo and puppets to create! We are always so focussed and engaged in our learning.  We come up with new ideas and work cooperatively with our friends to share the equipment. We love sharing our work!
We are enjoying learning about Space.  We already know lots but we still have lots of questions we want to find out answers to.  At discovery time we look in books and use google to help us  find out some of the answers! Today we focussed on astronauts!

Check out our new display in the classroom.  We made rhyming rockets in the quiet learning space today! Learning about rhyme helps  us to grow our vocabulary and help us think about spelling!

Monday swimming

Room 7 have been very busy on Mondays. We start by selecting our jobs and responsibilities for the week, practice our basic facts and handwriting skills.

Our sign in sheet is working well as we have to practice writing our name legibly every morning. We understand how important it is for others to be able to read our name!

Mums and Dads may have noticed that the reading books given out on a Monday are sometimes not read with the teacher first. Reading time is pretty quick on this day as lunch is at 11.30 and then we are on the bus for Dudley Pool.

We are very clever in the pool.

And very proud of what we can do.

Ciara and Sophie looking for something?? (teehee)

The instructors let us use different things in the water.

It really is fun.

Thanks Mums and Dads for allowing us to do this great programme. The adults helping have been priceless too.
Big thank yous to you all!!
