Green Hat Thinking- Getting Creative!

Today our focus was on using our Green Thinking Hat at Discovery Time.  We were given a variety of ideas as starters but were encouraged  to come up with our own ideas for using the equipment or changing the ideas so they became our own.  We were so engaged with our learning!
Check out some of the cool things that we made!

Thank you Anna for helping up to make new playdough.  We loved using it to create lots of different things.  A container of buttons provided the inspirations for many sparkly creations and animals!

Shells and twigs  provided the starter for many wonderful creatures and boats.
Lego figurines proved a very popular creation!

Ooey, gooey, slippery, slimy, oozy.... buckets of fun!  We came up with so many awesome adjectives to describe how this slime felt!

Over the next five weeks we will measuring lots of different things.
We started this topic off with an awesome gummy bear experiment. Please ask us to tell you about it at home! We were so excited to observe the changes that happened to the gummy bears in the different substances!

Yet again we have more  awesome children showing our REACH values!

Discovery Time

Discovery Time is an opportunity  for us to be creative thinkers , to use our self management and cooperative skills,  to develop fine motor skills and much, much  more!

Today we had creative children who made snakes then designed homes for them using the rods.
We had some help from George and Harry Marshall-Lee to make the coolest whistles that sounded like duck callers!  Thank you boys!
Luci and her Mum came organised with fantastic rockets that blasted off with the the help of a straw and our lungs! We loved sharing these!  Thank you!
These girls showed that they have been learning lots in our print-making lessons this term. They worked carefully at the painting table with some potato shapes and paint brushes to create lovely flowers in a vase!
Co-operation is so important in Rooms 6 & 7.  Today Ryia and Matthew worked so well together to create a really cool looking monster.  Well done!

I really love how everyone works together and helps each other to learn new skills!  Kapai!

Space Fun

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about space.  Today we enjoyed watching a youtube video of Apollo 11 landing on the moon! We knew that 3 astronauts went to space in  Apollo 11  but we didn't know if they all went on the moon or all of their names:

We discovered using the internet that only 2 of the astronauts landed on the moon- Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin.  Michael Collins , the third astronaut, had to stay in the rocket and orbit the moon taking photos and carrying out experiments.

Today w have had such a lot of fun blowing up balloons to make our own rockets, walking on stilts across the moon and jumping to get fit like an astronaut.

These wonderful children all received REACH awards this week.  Some were for being very Caring class members and some for showing Excellence in their schoolwork.  Well done!

Check out these future engineers- they have been watching the building of the new Ashley bridge and were keen to have a go at designing and building their own with blocks!
